Introducing Damon Braces
If your orthodontist has recommended braces, it could be for a number of reasons. The reason for straightening teeth isn’t always cosmetic. When teeth are crowded or crooked, they create crevices where food particles and bacteria can hide. This can make them difficult to keep clean, leading to the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. There are several options for braces today and Damon braces are a new and effective alternative for straightening teeth. They also make it easier to keep your teeth clean during the process.
The Damon system uses a slightly different method for straightening teeth than traditional metal braces. They are self-ligating braces, which means the brackets themselves are designed to close around the braces wire to keep it attached. In addition, they don’t need elastic ligatures to keep the wire attached to the brackets. Damon braces work with a low-friction system that uses gentler and more biologically sensible forces to position the teeth. This allows the teeth to move more comfortably, quickly and freely than traditional metal braces.
The Damon System Advantage
The Damon system offers several positive aspects over other types of braces. Traditional treatment frequently involves removing healthy teeth and/or using palatal expanders to create space. Traditional braces are not only uncomfortable; the process takes longer and can leave a flat profile and narrower arch. In contrast, the Damon system creates full, naturally beautiful smiles using gentle, biologically sensible forces, specifically designed to enhance the patient’s smile. Other advantages of the Damon, self-ligating system include the following.
- Less treatment time
- It’s easier to clean your teeth
- Fewer orthodontist appointments
- They’re unobtrusive compared to traditional braces
- Less discomfort because there’s no friction with self-ligating braces
The Cleaning Process
For obvious reasons, it’s difficult to properly clean your teeth if you’re wearing any kind of braces. Unfortunately, if you don’t clean your teeth thoroughly every day, you’ll end up with enamel damage and tooth decay once the braces are removed. In addition, the elastic ligatures that are used with conventional metal braces accumulate bacteria and plaque as well. Your teeth can also end up discolored from some beverages and foods. Damon braces eliminate most these concerns. Because Damon braces don’t use elastic, patients benefit from better oral hygiene throughout treatment and can even spend less time cleaning their teeth and gums.
